Just a day after franchise tagging Matt Judon (which I love) the Ravens went out and traded a 5th rounder for Calais Campbell, which overall, I think is very fair. Campbell had a solid season in 2019 (56 total tackles, 6.5 sacks and 1 pass defense) and at 33 years old, he still has 2 more years of production at this level without a doubt, making that 5th round pick giveaway all the more genius on the part of the Ravens. There secondary is lethal and makes it incredibly hard for offenses to pass on them, the one thing that they were really missing last year is a pure pass rusher to compliment Judon. Last year the Ravens had to dial up blitz packages or clever reads to get after the quarterback and notch a sack, and they did that incredibly but against the Titans they not only struggled to get pressure on Tannehill, they couldn’t stop Henry. Adding Campbell will do more than stop the run, his pure pass rushing ability will allow the Ravens to drop more into coverage and not have to blitz nearly as much as they did in 2019 (NFL’s most 54.9% according to pro-football reference). A Ravens team with a high powered offense that we saw last year, and a defense that can do more than in coverage while still getting at the quarterback… This team is prime for a deep playoff run, and no more of these one and done, the last two years that they have had.
